I use an old ski jacket as a rigging jacket and it works OK, but it has no lining. I think anything with a lining is going to get pretty rank and stinky and fall apart pretty quick! It's also not much more than that to get a proper neoprene one.

It's also made of a cotton mix fabric. I'd question how that will cope with horizontal rain, though it is possible the fabric has been chemically treated to make it more water resistant. I suspect something made from synthetic fibres would be a better bet.

As you can see from my picture I am far too much of a style victim to wear such a minging piece of schmutter, even for rigging at Esso beach. Just mtfu and don't go windsurfing when it's cold.

Edit: I see you are "frae north of the border" so it is always cold even in August. I suggest just getting a Spartan semi-dry and putting it on/taking it off at home. You'll need a waterproof car seat cover. Then again it is awful cheap ... you'll have had your tea etc.
