Fit a tracker ( telematics box) as part of the insurance to get access to lower prices. Also, check out deals via Endsleigh who focus on students.

Can he put all his stuff on the roof? That would remove the need for interior space and open him up to more car options, provided they have a roof rack of course. I have a 'Pro Limit' rig bag that takes everything other than the board, and it sits on top of my board on the roof. I changed about a year ago to this setup after getting fed up with the smell of fish in my car :-) It also makes loading up easier, and for your son at Uni, much neater storage of his kit as it's just one bag to carry back and forth. The only downside is even with just two masts, two sails and one of everything else, the bag can get pretty heavy.

The two boards in the car are a 242x60 freestyle wave and a 230x65 freestyle board. You could go longer on the length but with the width I reckon once you get to 75 wide it would start getting in the Way of the gear stick to much. Here are are a couple of photos

Chris, looks great. My main board is 142 x 62 so its good to see that it's pretty easy to get it into a small'ish car.

Hope your son gets on well with it at uni.
