    GPS system

    Sorry if this is a well covered topic but is there a simple easy to use basic system to give a speed read out when sailing nothing flash just something simple and basic thanks

    Yes, a Garmin Forerunner 310XT or similar. I bought a used one recently for £50 on Ebay. You can do all sorts of fancy stuff with it if you want (Phil may be along shortly...), but I just use it to display current speed, max speed & time.

    Can anyone recommend a GPS emergency device to wear / attach somewhere - Is there something that has a a single button to press in the case of an emergency - sends a distress signal / an e-mail / text alert etc ?

    I did a write up on a thread a while back about using a smartphone and related apps for speed and SOS. It has the benefit of also allowing your significant other to track you even if you dont manage to press the SOS button.
