    Sizes: Sails, Booms, Luff, Masts, Mast Extensions ... Help

    OK I have tried to look, but still don't understand how you figure out what sail goes with what mast, mast extension, boom etc.

    Anyone have a good link that explains this?

    I think I've managed to figure out from information on the sail:

    Mast + (adjustable) Extension = Luff (on sail) + 10mm ??
    Boom (on sail) = Boom size (adjustable) [or does there need to different?]

    What is the base size mentioned on the sail for?

    Question..
    So if I bought this sail:

    https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3b&oe=5A60661D
    Mast=400
    Base=12
    Boom=170
    Luff=410

    This is the "base" that I use with my Arrows iRig that screws into the board.
    https://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server6...0.1280.jpg?c=2

    I would need:
    * 400cm mast
    * mast extension, size=20? (although don't seem to do 20, only 35 or 45)
    * boom 160-200
    * Uphaul
    * my existing base (iBase?)
    * one of these? https://www.24-7boardsports.com/nort...don-for-ibase/

    I have watched a rigging video on YouTube so have an idea how to rig a sail, but struggling with all of the parts. Seems overly complex.

    Help!!!! [sorry, know these are the basics]

    Mast + (adjustable) Extension = Luff (on sail) + 10mm ?? Not sure why you would say +10mm? Otherwise correct.
    Boom (on sail) = Boom size (adjustable) [or does there need to different?] Correct. Usually a range on this sail it is max needed.

    What is the base size mentioned on the sail for? This is essentially a typo - they meant extension.

    * boom 160-200 - Correct
    * Uphaul - Correct
    * my existing base (iBase?) This is only the base plate of the compete iBase, you need the joint part (below) as well as compatible extension(above)
    * one of these? Correct https://www.24-7boardsports.com/nort...don-for-ibase/

    All of this is correct but there is more to it than that. There is type & size of sail to suit as well as mast bend curve when things get more advanced...

    I don't know if what I have to say is of much help but here are my thoughts after 3 months of WS
    1 Watch the video Beginner to Wiener a million times - it covers ALL the basics over and over again and is so easy to watch
    2 Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlgogHJpAug
    carve gybing intuition and core skills when you get your tack down

    I found watching these videos millions of times really helps cement things together

    The board, put the fin in, put the mast foot on the board,
    put the mast in the sail, put the wishbone on the mast, put the extension (of the right length) on the mast, DH and OH, put the mast extension on the mast foot.

    Your Uphaul line should be permanently attached to your wishbone.

    Maybe that helps...

    And if it is in anyway feasible* ask another sailor/shop to advise when you are rigging up as it'll make much more sense when someone is standing next to you.

    * assuming you aren't sailing on your own - which you shouldn't be at your level ;-)
