    Luderitz Speed event, 2017.

Back after a year's break and with new organisers and sponsors on board, the Luderitz Speed Challenge is already well under way.

We should have a new thread for this event, as records will fall over the coming days and weeks.

The event window continues until November 26th with most competitors booking in for one week or two during that period.

The event site is slow to update but you can find some 2017 results on here if you look:

The Press and PR seems a bit slow this year in dishing out regular reports, but here's one of their recent videos, showing some national and individual records already being broken.

There is no livestream but the event's Facebook page sometimes has live clips when the local phone signal allows.

Apparently, Bjorn Dunkerbeck has already arrived in Luderitz for his attempts at a new speed record.

The current forecast suggests they should get some strong wind for about three days, starting on Saturday.

Mark and Raffy are now running the event, and have been there for weeks. (I know them quite well, from Cape Town).

    Dunkerbeck arrived two days ago.

Ben Proffitt arrived in Luderitz at lunchtime today and will be reporting on the event via windsurfing.tv over the coming two weeks.

They have plenty of wind there today, but maybe not quite strong enough yet for record breaking.

Farrel O'Shea is also there, amongst some other well-known speed sailors who have just arrived. My tip will be to see what Andy Laufer can achieve.

The forecast is for stronger wind tomorrow (Sunday) and it'll be even windier for Monday.
